The imposition of sanctions by Europe against India will be another sensitive blow to the economy of the European Union (EU), but it will help promote the BRICS and SCO. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Alexander Asafov on Monday, September 1.

Earlier in the day, the Axios portal reported that the United States called on European countries to impose sanctions on India similar to the American ones, including a complete cessation of oil and gas supplies, RT reports.

It is noted that Washington is calling on Europe to impose additional duties on goods from India. 360.ru .

Asafov noted that such consolidated pressure from the West leads to the fact that the contradictions between India and China are being smoothed out, and they are integrated into the vast world of the Global South along with Russia.

"And Russia is the flagship here, because for many years Russia has been through the diplomatic department, and the president has said that sanctions are against us today and against you tomorrow. And the reason is not important here, the root cause is important. And the root cause is economic competition and the need to monopolize all markets," he explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The expert stressed that sanctions contribute to the advancement of BRICS and the SCO. In addition, such persistence in attempts to maintain a unipolar world of direct pressure leads to a convergence and consolidation of efforts by the Global South, Russia, China, India and other non-Western actors, Asafov concluded.

Earlier, on August 7, US President Donald Trump announced new sanctions against Russia's trading partners, IA Regnum reports. At the same time, the American president did not rule out that the United States could subsequently cancel duties of 25% against India for the purchase of Russian oil. In addition, restrictions on trade with Russia may be imposed on China.

On August 26, Reuters reported that trade duties of 50%, which were previously announced by Trump, have already begun to apply to India. It clarifies that the tariffs affected goods, which included precious stones, jewelry, shoes, sporting goods, as well as furniture and chemicals.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on August 23 that the United States and the European Union (EU) countries, despite their accusations against India, continue to buy oil from it. He advised these states, if they have problems purchasing fossil fuels from India, not to purchase it anymore.
