Former Hungarian, British and Australian boxer Joe Bagner has died at the age of 75. This was announced on September 1 by the BBC television and radio company.
"It is with deep sorrow that we inform you that former British, European and Commonwealth heavyweight champion and world title contender Joe Bagner has died at his retirement home in Brisbane, Australia," the British Boxing Board of Control quoted the broadcaster as saying.
The boxer won the most significant victory in his career in 1971. Then he won against compatriot Henry Cooper, thereby winning the titles of champion of Europe, the countries of the British Commonwealth and Great Britain.
In 1973, Bagner took part in 12-round fights against American athletes Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. According to the judges' decision, he lost. However, in 1975, Bagner's rematch with Ali for the World Boxing Council World title took place, which again ended unsuccessfully.
In total, the boxer took part in 83 fights. During his life, he managed to win 69 victories, 41 of which by knockout. In addition, he has 13 defeats and one draw. Wagner competed in the heavyweight division. He became the European champion three times and the British champion twice.
