The murder of Parubiy became known on August 30. According to police, in the afternoon, the department received a report of a shooting in the Sykhiv district of Lviv. As a result of his injuries, the former head of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) died on the spot. Zelensky later promised to involve all necessary forces in the search for Parubiy's killer.

Rodion Miroshnik, the Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, suggested in an interview with Izvestia that the murder of Parubiy could be connected with the cleansing of the political field by the new Bandera from the old Bandera. He added that the Kiev regime does not tolerate any alternatives in the political space, preferring "one-man shows." Later, the Ukrainian wing of the American far-right group The Base White Phoenix ("White Phoenix") announced its involvement in the murder of Parubiy.
