Schools in Ukraine began to switch to 12-year education following the example of Europe and the United States on September 1 this year. This was stated by the head of the Education Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Sergei Babak.

"A pilot project for the introduction of a 12-year school will begin on September 1. <...> Today, the 11-year education system remains in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The 12-year—old is generally accepted throughout Europe. America has also adopted this standard," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to Babak, new programs will be tested, providing for two areas of study — academic and professional. The pilot project will last until September 1, 2027.

This is the first step towards the introduction of a new state standard for specialized secondary education and preparation for the transition to a 12-year system, which will contribute to the recognition of Ukrainian certificates by Europeans, the Rada deputy added.

On May 3, the Language Ombudsman of Ukraine Taras Kremen. He stated that new checks on the use of the state language have begun to be carried out in Ukrainian schools. He noted that the educational process includes all types of activities taking place on the territory of the educational institution, therefore, the Ukrainian language should be used not only in lessons.
