- The Ethiopian Ambassador announced the strengthening of cultural ties with Russia within the framework of the BRICS
The cultural initiative "Ethiopia Rising: a Representation of Culture and Art", which will be held in Russia in September, will strengthen cultural contacts between Addis Ababa and Moscow. On September 1, the Ambassador of the African Republic to the Russian Federation, Genet Teshome Girrou, told Izvestia.
The cultural initiative will be held in St. Petersburg and Moscow on September 11 and 14.
"It will showcase the country's rich cultural heritage. The Government of Ethiopia believes that this initiative will strengthen cultural ties between our countries and people-to-people contacts. People—to-people relations are one of the pillars of BRICS. This initiative will strengthen cooperation between our countries within the framework of BRICS. We want a wide range of audiences to participate in the events, including high—ranking officials, members of parliament, media representatives, scientists and influential people," said the Ethiopian Ambassador to the Russian Federation.
The program involves the participation of 77 musicians, dancers, and singers from Ethiopia. The events will also be attended by senior representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Ethiopia.
The events in St. Petersburg will be held at the Alexandrinsky Theater, and in Moscow at the Rachmaninov Concert Hall.
On April 28, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Ethiopian counterpart Gideon Timotheos confirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation between the two countries. It was noted that Lavrov and Timotheos advocated building up Russian-Ethiopian contacts in various fields, primarily at the United Nations (UN) and BRICS.
