Kim Jong-un took a special train to China
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un traveled to China on a special train. This was reported on September 1 by the Republic of Korea's Y onhap news agency, citing a source.
Kim Jong-un left Pyongyang on the afternoon of September 1. The train journey to Beijing will take from 20 to 24 hours, and it may arrive as early as the afternoon of September 2.
The North Korean leader is expected to be present in Beijing on the "multilateral diplomatic stage" at a military parade. A trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Leader Xi Jinping may take place there.
This will be his first visit to China since coming to power in 2011. The agency notes that the grandfather of the current leader and founder of the DPRK, Kim Il Sung, attended a military parade in Beijing in 1959.
On August 28, Reuters reported that Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will attend the Victory Day parade in Beijing, dedicated to the official surrender of Japan during World War II. It was specified that the heads of state and government from 26 countries will attend the event.
