Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said that education and training are an important area for the development of the country. She announced this on September 1 at the opening of a multidisciplinary school in the Leningrad region in Gatchina.

Matvienko thanked the Governor of the Leningrad Region, Alexander Drozdenko, for inviting her to the opening of the school.

"I know that you personally pay great attention to the field of education. <...> This year alone, 12 new schools, 10 after renovation, and kindergartens have been built. This is a very, very right direction, because there will be no education, no training and no development," Matvienko said.

She also noted that the school has amazing modern learning conditions, and similar educational institutions should be opened throughout Russia.

In addition, Matvienko pointed to the successes of the Leningrad region in the social sphere and investments. According to her, the region is among the leaders in terms of attracted investments. In recent years, the Leningrad Region has attracted more than 7 trillion investments in various fields.

"A lot of attention is paid to social issues. The social infrastructure and the healthcare sector are being modernized, and support for categories of citizens who need it is increasing every year," she said.

Earlier, on September 1, the Ministry of Education announced that renovated buildings of 670 schools, 41 kindergartens and 22 colleges will be opened in Russia by the new academic year. Another 580 schools are planned to be put in order by the end of 2025.
