Starting from October 1, 2025, the Russian logistics market will undergo a major change: one of the oldest delivery services, Boxberry, will completely shut down its network of order pick-up points throughout Russia. This was reported by the Delovoy Peterburg newspaper on September 1.

According to the publication, this decision was the final stage of the takeover of the company by Yandex, which was announced in April this year.

Boxberry, founded in 2010 as a division of Ural-Press Group, owned one of the largest PVZ networks in the country at the time of acquisition — more than 4.3 thousand branches in 640 cities. Despite the scale, the company faced financial difficulties: according to data for 2024, the revenue of Boxberry Soft LLC amounted to 2.3 billion rubles, but the net loss reached 198 million rubles. A similar situation was observed with the associated legal entity Smart Logistics LLC, which made the takeover a natural stage in business development.

The integration of Boxberry into the Yandex infrastructure is taking place in stages. By September 8, the remaining orders will be delivered to the pick-up points, and from September 9 to September 30, the PVZ will work exclusively on the delivery of goods. As explained in the Yandex Delivery press service, the partners-owners of the points are switching to new contracts, which will allow to unify the format of cooperation. Some of the counterparties have already received notifications of termination of the agreements, but they have been invited to discuss the terms of a new interaction.

According to analysts, the Boxberry logistics network is especially valuable for its presence in regions where Yandex was previously poorly represented. Thanks to the deal, the company's pick-up points and delivery service will appear in more than 20 new regions of the Russian Federation, including Siberia and the Far East. This will allow Yandex to reduce its lag behind such giants as Ozon and Wildberries, which have a significantly larger number of PVZ.

Experts emphasize that the logistics market is inevitably consolidating around large ecosystems. According to Leonid Delitsyn, an analyst at Finam, it is becoming almost impossible for independent players to compete with marketplaces that can use PVZ as an element of their infrastructure rather than a source of profit.

"It is unclear how an independent business of issuing orders can be profitable in an environment where large marketplaces, telecom operators, retailers, and the post office also have a large number of points where you can place an order," he said.

The acquisition of Boxberry will allow Yandex to increase its market share by 30-40%, even taking into account the possible closure of some points.

For customers, the transition of Boxberry under the management of Yandex will open up new opportunities: access to more than 14,000 pick-up points across the country, express courier delivery during the day and improved logistics in remote regions. According to Artyom Sokolov, president of the Association of Online Trading Companies (AKIT), despite the growing popularity of courier services, 85% of residents of the regions prefer to pick up orders from the delivery point. Thus, the increased presence of Yandex in this segment will strengthen its position in the fight for consumers.

On May 15, financial consultant Stepan Sumin told Izvestia how our costs are changing with the development of delivery and how to save money without giving up the usual comfort. According to him, services often have hidden items of expenditure. For example, the speed at which an order is received directly affects the purchase decision. Many are willing to pay extra if the order is delivered as early as possible.
