- Trump linked the duties imposed by the United States with the desire to preserve the greatness of the country
The duties of the United States, which were imposed on other countries, will bring the country over $15 trillion — the abolition of tariffs will make the United States a "third world country." This was announced on August 31 by the head of the White House, Donald Trump.
"If <...> the court allows these duties to be lifted, <...> in many ways we will turn into a third world country with no hope of greatness," he wrote on the Truth Social network.
According to the American leader, all investments coming to the state budget from outside directly depend on tariffs, in case of cancellation of which the United States may lose profits.
On August 30, Reuters reported that the U.S. Court of Appeals had declared most of the duties imposed by Trump illegal. The tariffs, as noted in the publication, were limited until October 14, 2025, so that the office of the head of the White House could appeal to the US Supreme Court. On the same day, Trump called this decision erroneous and noted that all his duties continue to apply.
On August 26, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States had begun to receive record budget revenues from duties imposed by Trump. According to him, the revenue from tariffs could amount to $300 billion per year.
