On August 31, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova ironically commented on the decision of several European countries, including Lithuania, to restore marshlands on their borders with Belarus.
"There is unrest on the Polish-Belarusian border. On the same day, Zablackis announced that Lithuania plans to restore previously drained marshes on the border with Belarus, explaining this with measures to strengthen security. According to his estimates, the restoration of such an area will take about ten years, and the cost of work per hectare varies from €500 to €2 thousand and above.
On August 26, it was reported that the authorities of Poland and Finland are considering the possibility of restoring marshes on the borders with the Russian Federation to protect against the alleged Russian threat.
