The United Nations has condemned the arbitrary detentions of employees of the World Food Program (WFP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, by the Yemeni Houthis. This was announced on August 31 by the UN Special Representative in Yemen, Hans Grundberg.

"I strongly condemn the new wave of arbitrary detentions of UN personnel today in Sanaa and Hodeidah, as well as the forced entry into UN premises and the seizure of UN property. At least 11 UN staff members were detained," The Guardian quoted him as saying.

The Houthis, supported by Iran, attacked the UN offices in Sanaa, which deal with food, medicine and children. As a result of the raid, at least 11 employees were detained, the newspaper notes.

According to the newspaper, Grundberg demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the detained employees.

WFP spokesman Abir Etefa had earlier reported that security forces had raided the agencies' offices in the Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa on Sunday morning. According to her, one employee was detained in the city, and the rest in other areas.

On August 30, the head of Ansar Allah, Mahdi al-Mashat, warned Israel of retribution and the onset of "dark days" after the death of the movement's prime minister, Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahavi.

On August 17, the IDF press service reported a missile attack on a Yemeni Houthi energy facility in the Sanaa region. The Israeli side clarified that it would continue to counter all attacks by the Houthis.
