Polish fans booed the Israeli national anthem before the start of the game between the national teams of the two countries in the second round of the group stage of the European Basketball Championship. A video of the incident was posted on August 31 by TVP Sport channel journalist Yakub Klyshcheyko on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).

As noted by the TVP World channel, there was a tense atmosphere in Katowice before the start of the match. Demonstrations organized by the local movements "Katowice for Palestine" and "All-Polish Youth" took place near the Spodek Arena. The posters called on Israel to "stop the genocide in Gaza."

The meeting of basketball players of the national teams of Poland and Israel ended with the victory of the hosts with the score 66:64 (19:14, 18:12, 11:25, 18:13). The Israeli rivals suffered their first defeat, and the Polish athletes won the two opening matches of the tournament, Sport-Express clarified.

The European Basketball Championships are being held in Poland, Latvia, Finland and Cyprus. The competition ends on September 14th.

On August 27, Spanish film director Pedro Almodovar called on the Spanish government to sever relations with Israel in a sign of condemnation of the genocide carried out by the country's authorities against the people of Gaza. Almodovar's video message appeared on the Instagram account of the El Deseo production company (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and whose activities are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation). The director suggested that users post their appeals on social networks with the same appeal.
