- NBC pointed to the tense situation in the US intelligence agencies after the disclosure of the CIA agent
After the scandal involving the disclosure of the identity of an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, disagreements have intensified in the American intelligence community, in particular, between CIA Director John Ratcliffe and head of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. This was reported on August 30 by NBC News.
"Gabbard stunned the CIA leadership last week by revealing the name of an undercover CIA employee. <...> This move alarmed agency employees <...> and became another example of growing tension. <...>..> between Gabbard and <...> Ratcliffe," the article says.
It became known that the female CIA officer, whose name was revealed by Gabbard, was a highly qualified analyst who actively participated in the preparation of the White House team for the summit in the United States and Russia in Alaska.
It was planned that after the summit she would take up a new assignment in Europe from the CIA. However, at the end of the summit, the analyst was informed that her security clearance had been revoked, citing politicization and her disclosure of classified intelligence.
According to a former government official, Gabbard apparently tried to gain the favor of US President Donald Trump by redoubling efforts to identify his political opponents, including those who work for the CIA.
The Economist magazine reported on August 21 that Trump had fired one of the CIA's senior analysts on Russia. It is noted that in 2016, a CIA employee who has worked in intelligence for more than 20 years led the preparation of a report on Russia's alleged interference in the US presidential election.
