Trump assessed the prospects for a trilateral meeting with Zelensky and Putin
US President Donald Trump positively assessed the prospect of trilateral talks with Russia and Ukraine. In an interview on August 30, he expressed confidence that their meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky would take place.
"There will be trilateral negotiations. I don't know about the bilateral one, but the trilateral ones will take place. Although you know, sometimes people are not ready for this," the leader of the United States told the Daily Caller portal.
Trump noted that he would like to see how the Ukrainian conflict is resolved. He added that the plans for future negotiators remind him of the situation when children swing on a playground swing.
"Sometimes they have to fight a little bit before you can get them to stop. But this has been going on for a long time," the head of state said.
The Politico newspaper reported on August 29, citing its sources, that the United States is interested in holding technical consultations between representatives of Russia and Ukraine before a possible trilateral summit on the Ukrainian settlement. To discuss this topic, Special envoy of the President of the United States Stephen Witkoff has scheduled a meeting in New York with the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Ermak.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified at the same time that Putin did not rule out the possibility of holding a meeting with Zelensky, but believed that any summit meeting should be well prepared so that it could finalize developments that should first be implemented at the expert level.
