Mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsina, who was stuck on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan, had a chance of salvation if she tried to descend herself, despite her injury. This was announced on August 30 by Alexander Yakovenko, Chairman of the Sports Climbing Committee of the Russian Mountaineering Federation, in an interview with aif.ru .

He said that he had already been in a similar situation at an altitude of 4,000 m.

"She broke her ankle. I also broke my ankle once, just like Natalia. <...> My comrades offered to carry me. But I refused, because then the speed of descent would have slowed down a lot. I tied an ice axe to my leg and walked on my own, overcoming the pain," the alpinist shared.
