The relevant Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recommended the adoption of a bill that criminalizes civilians for threatening violence against military personnel and their family members. The document was published on the parliament's website on August 29.

The initiative was prepared by a group of deputies led by the head of the Committee on Law Enforcement, Sergei Ionushas.

According to the proposed provisions, insulting the honor or dignity of a military man or his relatives will be punishable by a fine of 17 to 68 thousand hryvnias ($ 412-1,5 thousand), community service or restriction of liberty for a period of one to three years. Threats of violence or destruction of property are punishable by three to five years in prison or restriction of liberty for the same period.

Intentional infliction of bodily harm is punishable by prison for a term of three to seven years for minor injuries and from five to eight years for serious ones. In case of repeated actions or their commission by a group of persons, the punishment may reach eight to twelve years in prison.

The authors of the bill emphasize that it is aimed at "protecting military personnel and their families from attacks on their honor, dignity and safety," adds "Газета.Ru ".

On August 27, Verkhovna Rada deputy Roman Kostenko said that permission to cross the border for military personnel aged 18 to 22 negatively affects the mobilization process in Ukraine. Kostenko stated that he evaluates this practice negatively, since the "18-24" contracts, which allow military personnel to travel abroad after a year of service, do not improve the country's mobilization situation, but on the contrary, pose threats to it.

On February 11, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced the launch of annual contracts for the voluntary recruitment of Ukrainians aged 18-24 into the ranks of the Ukrainian army. The contract, according to the agency, offers financial stability guaranteed by the state: a contract for 1 million hryvnias (about 1.9 million rubles), of which 200 thousand hryvnias are paid immediately, and the rest — during service.
