An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 was recorded off the east coast of the Japanese island of Honshu, the press service of the Altai-Sayan branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on August 30.

According to the branch, the tremors were registered at 19:29 Moscow time on Friday, August 29. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 31 kilometers southeast of the city of Kesennuma, RIA Novosti reports.

According to experts, the intensity of the tremors in the epicenter was "very strong."

On August 27, the Seismological Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan reported a magnitude 5.7 earthquake that occurred at 18:57 (16:27 Moscow time) in Afghanistan. The seismic event was located at a depth of 160 km. There was no information about damage or casualties.
