The Venezuelan Foreign Minister thanked Russia for its support amid threats from the United States

On August 30, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto thanked Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), for supporting the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity in connection with the movement of US warships in the Caribbean Sea.

On August 29, Zakharova announced that Russia resolutely does not accept the threat of the use of force against sovereign states. She also noted that Moscow expresses its solidarity with the people and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

"On behalf of the President of [Venezuela] Nicolas Maduro Moros, we welcome the strong statement by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, regarding the recent deployment of American warships in the Caribbean Sea. The presence of nuclear submarines off our shores poses an unacceptable threat to Venezuela's sovereignty and peace in our region," he said in a Telegram message.

In addition, he stressed the importance of Latin America remaining a zone of peace free from violent interference.

"We appreciate Russia's support, which confirms its commitment to protecting our sovereign principles and territorial integrity," Gil Pinto added.

The Financial Times newspaper reported on August 28 that the US Navy had sent at least seven ships and a nuclear submarine with ballistic missiles to the shores of Venezuela. According to the newspaper, the US actions have led to increased tensions in relations with Venezuela and other Latin American countries.

On August 21, Maduro announced a nationwide call for the forces of the Bolivarian National Militia, as well as reservists and those willing to sign up for volunteers due to a possible threat from the United States. It was noted that the draft will take place in the headquarters of military units, barracks and squares throughout the country. The President also called on citizens to maintain maximum unity of the army, people and militia.
