On August 29, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called his visit to Moscow to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Victory "correct" and also stressed his commitment to the sovereignty of Slovakia.

Fico, speaking at a solemn event on the occasion of the anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising against the Wehrmacht during World War II, which took place in 1944, stressed that the citizens of the Soviet Union "paid" a huge price for the freedom of the Slovak people and Slovakia will always remember this.

"I think it was the right decision when I decided to go to Moscow in May, first of all, to thank the soldiers of the Red Army for what they did," was his speech, which was posted on the Prime Minister's Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in Russia Russian Federation).

In addition, Fico noted that he respects every victim of the Second World War. He stressed that while he is in his position, he will always be faithful to maintaining a peaceful, "Slovak" and sovereign policy based on international law, and "no one will tell him where to go and where not to go."

On June 30, Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar called on the states of the European Union (EU) to restore dialogue with Moscow by restoring respect for international rights. Earlier, on June 29, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also noted the importance of starting negotiations with Russia.
