On August 29, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova pointed out a linguistic error made by President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in the term rashism used by him in the law "On the State Policy of National Memory of the Ukrainian People."

"Almost all "-isms" in the East Slavic languages (both in Russian and Ukrainian) are constructed in the same way: from the root with the addition of a suffix. Fan–ism, tour–ism, lobby–ism. The logic is simple and transparent. According to this model, "Rashism" can mean only one thing — the Teachings of Rashi," she explained in her Telegram channel.

Zakharova noted that "Rashi" does not mean the word "Russia" at all — Rashi, according to her, is an established acronym (an abbreviation formed from the initial letters or parts of words or phrases) on behalf of "Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki" — the largest medieval commentator on the Talmud and Tanakh.

Rashi was a spiritual leader and public figure of the Jews of Northern France, whom a number of researchers consider to be one of the creators of the French language.

She added that because of the "hatred" felt towards Russia, the Kiev side is creating bills that testify to its historical ignorance, leading to sacrilege.

"Zelensky <...> has turned his own parliament into a linguistic circus," Zakharova summed up.

An official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry at a briefing on August 29 said that some statements by French President Emmanuel Macron may cross the line of decent and reasonable. Zakharova stressed that the French leader's words sometimes become insults addressed to both Russia and Russians.
