The Russian Consulate General in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, will open in the near future. This was announced on August 29 by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov at an event at the Embassy of Uzbekistan.

"The work on the establishment of the Russian Consulate General in Samarkand is nearing completion. The opening of this department will take place in the near future," RIA Novosti quoted the deputy minister as saying.

He also added that the opening of the Consulate General confirms the mutual desire to expand bilateral ties, including regional dimensions.

In February last year, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to open the Consulate General of Russia in Samarkand.

On August 17, the Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan, Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, discussed key issues of cooperation. In addition, some topical issues on the bilateral agenda were touched upon, with an emphasis on the further development of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation.
