Politico has learned about secret drone manufacturing plants in Ukraine
The German company Quantum Systems, which manufactures unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has organized their production at secret facilities in Ukraine. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 29, after talking with Alexander Berezhny, Executive Director of Quantum Systems Ukraine.
He said that German manufacturers have decided to increase their production in Ukraine, and are also expanding the number of factories they cooperate with in Germany.
"Quantum Systems has managed to scale up production from 40 to 80 drones per month at their secret facilities in Ukraine, while German factories produce 120 per month," the article says.
According to media reports, production facilities will be distributed throughout Ukraine, as the company wants to minimize the risks of attacks on its facilities.
On August 14, the German Foreign Ministry announced its intention to allocate $500 million for weapons to Ukraine as part of the "new mechanism" of NATO called the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL — list of priority requirements of Ukraine). It was specified that Germany would take over the financing of one of the complex packages.
After that, on August 25, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denis Shmygal also announced that Kiev had signed a preliminary agreement with Vilnius on the joint production of weapons. The countries intend to focus on creating long-range drones. According to Shmygal, the document creates opportunities for the launch of joint ventures, the development of Ukrainian companies in Lithuania and the exchange of technologies.
