According to the expert, the disease is accompanied by a burning sensation, tingling of the tongue, irritation when eating and impaired taste sensations.

Desquamative glossitis can be either primary, resulting from injury to the tongue, or secondary, developing against a background of common diseases. In particular, pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract, such as gastritis, colitis, hepatitis and cholecystitis, can lead to impaired absorption of B vitamins, which negatively affects the condition of the mucous membranes, including the tongue.

"Autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic scleroderma, also affect all body systems, creating prerequisites for the development of inflammatory processes," the doctor said.

In addition, desquamative glossitis can be the result of acute infections such as influenza, scarlet fever or typhoid fever, as well as helminth infestations and dysbiosis. The specialist stressed that when symptoms appear, it is important to consult a doctor in a timely manner for diagnosis and comprehensive treatment aimed at eliminating the underlying cause of the disease.
