NYP reports on Trump's reduction of foreign aid by $5 billion
US President Donald Trump plans to cut $5 billion in congressionally approved foreign aid, of which $1.5 million was supposed to go to promote paintings painted by Ukrainians. This was reported on August 29 by the New York Post (NYP) newspaper, citing sources.
"The Trump administration has highlighted expenditure items that are supposedly wasteful," the article says.
It is reported that in addition to supporting Ukraine, $3.2 billion was to go to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), $322 million for the State Department's Democracy Fund, $393 million for peacekeeping, and $445 million in support for peacekeepers.
In addition, $24.6 million was to go to climate resilience in Honduras, $2.7 million to the South African Foundation for Democracy Support, and $3.9 million to promote democracy among LGBT people (the movement is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) in the Western Balkans.
On July 1, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that USAID had decided to terminate foreign aid programs. According to him, now, under the Trump administration, the foreign financing mission in America will give priority to the national interests of the country.
