In 2024, the DPRK's economy grew at the fastest pace since 2016 amid strengthening ties with Moscow and increased trade with Beijing. The country's GDP grew by 3.7% compared to the previous year due to increased cooperation in heavy industry and construction. This was reported by Bloomberg on August 29.

According to the publication, real GDP is estimated at $26.7 billion. In 2024, the heavy and chemical industries became the leaders of economic growth, with an increase in the production of primary metals, including iron, steel, copper, nickel and aluminum.

"Beijing has long supported the DPRK's economy, which has been affected by sanctions, by supplying it with key goods and providing a market for Pyongyang's goods and materials," the article says.

According to the agency, the joint appearance of the leaders of the DPRK, China and Russia on September 3, 2025 at a military parade in Beijing "is designed to strengthen the emerging axis" among Washington's main rivals and strengthen Pyongyang's position on the world stage.

Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui said on August 28 that the upcoming meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping is of historical importance. According to Hanhui, Russian-Chinese relations are "one of the most stable, mature and most strategically valuable relations between great powers in the modern world."

A day earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that relations between Russia and China are currently a priority topic for the Russian side, and therefore the upcoming visit of the Russian leader to China will be unprecedented. He clarified that high-level contacts between the two countries are extremely important.
