Sales of Tesla electric vehicles in Europe fell by 40%
In July of this year, sales of Tesla electric vehicles in Europe decreased by 40% year-on-year. The sale of cars by the company of American entrepreneur Elon Musk has been falling for the seventh month in a row, while its main competitor, the Chinese concern BYD, is recording high demand. This was reported on August 28 by CNBC, citing data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
So, in July, 8,837 new Tesla electric vehicles were registered (-40% compared to July 2024), while BYD sales amounted to 13.5 thousand units, which is 225% more than a year earlier. It is noted that Tesla's performance has deteriorated even against the background of an increase in total sales of electric vehicles in Europe.
According to the publication, Tesla has faced a number of difficulties in the European market, including fierce competition and reputational damage to the billionaire caused by his relationship with the administration of US President Donald Trump. In the global market, Tesla's sales revenue fell in the second quarter and, as Musk warned, the company faces several more difficult quarters.
Another problem for Tesla is the lack of a major lineup upgrade. This year, the company said it was working on a more affordable electric vehicle, which is scheduled to debut in the second half of 2025. Investors hope that this will revive sales, the article says.
Earlier, on August 27, it was reported that demand for electric vehicles and hybrids of the Evolve brand, which are produced at the plant in the Lipetsk region, increased by 13.5% in Russia by mid-2025 compared to last summer.
On August 20, it became known that as of the beginning of July, there were 65.2 thousand electric vehicles in Russia. Since the beginning of the year, the increase in the number of electric cars has amounted to 5.6 thousand units (+9.4%), of which 4.4 thousand cars were sold as new, the rest were used. The most common electric car model in the country is the Nissan Leaf (17.3 thousand units).
