Rodion Shchedrin, composer and pianist, has died.
On the night of Friday, August 29, composer and pianist Rodion Shchedrin died. This was reported in the press service of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia.
"Tonight, at the age of 93, the greatest genius of our time, the world classic Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin, passed away," the theater said in a statement on the VKontakte social network.
Shchedrin was a People's Artist of the USSR, a music teacher and a public figure. He was a laureate of the Lenin Prize (1984), the USSR State Prize (1972) and two State Prizes of the Russian Federation (1992, 2018), as well as a full recipient of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland.
His works include seven operas, five ballets, three symphonies, 14 concerts, chamber, instrumental, vocal and choral works, as well as music for theater and cinema.
