On August 29, Russian traveler Fyodor Konyukhov and balloonist Ivan Menyailo broke the record for the highest flight in a thermal balloon.

"At 07:11 Barnaul time (03:11 Moscow time), 76 minutes after launch, Fyodor Konyukhov and Ivan Menyailo reached 10678 m and broke the national altitude record on a PhosAgro thermal balloon," Konyukhov said in a Telegram channel.

It is clarified that the previous record belonged to Russian Vitaly Nenashev, who reached a height of 10,266 m on May 30, 2019. Konyukhov and Menyailo surpassed this achievement by climbing 412 m higher (by 4.01%), which meets the requirements of the International Federation of Aeronautics (FAI) for recognition of a new record.

The headquarters of the Konyukhov and Menyailo expedition announced on March 25 that the travelers had broken the record for the longest flight in a hot air balloon. It was clarified that they broke the record set in June 1994 by Japanese pilots Michio Kanda and Chikatsu Kakinuma.
