The draft law of the Ministry of Health on compulsory targeted education of students of the budgetary direction in medical and pharmaceutical education programs is the "first swallow". This measure will affect both pedagogical specialties and other industries, Anatoly Domnikov, chairman of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of the Russian Federation, suggested in a comment to Izvestia.

"It would be better to regulate the (personnel) problem in a market-based way: with wages. But considering that it is quite difficult to do this now, the government is going the other way. We believe that healthcare in this sense is the first step, and the measure with the introduction of (compulsory) targeted education will affect both the education sector and other sectors," Anatoly Domnikov told Izvestia.

The Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of the Russian Federation conceptually supported the draft law of the Ministry of Health on the introduction of compulsory targeted education for medical students. Domnikov believes that this proposal will help to cope with the personnel shortage, reducing the burden on already working medical workers.

He mentioned that there are still concerns about the declining interest of applicants in medical education, but referred to the estimates of the Ministry of Health, according to which there will be no shortage of medical students.

Meanwhile, not all the medical community agrees with the proposal of the Ministry of Health on the mandatory targeted training of medical students: the union "Action" and the association of medical workers "Doctors of the Russian Federation" spoke out against it. Representatives of the pharmaceutical industry also expressed their concerns.
