The Europeans, apparently, decided to follow the path of secondary sanctions that the Americans wanted to follow. Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, expressed this opinion on Thursday, August 28, responding to the desire of the European Union (EU) countries to impose restrictions against Russia's partners.

The day before, Bloomberg reported that the EU intends to try to impose secondary sanctions against Russia's partners for the first time as part of the 19th package of restrictions, because it has reached the limit of direct measures.

"Does the European Union have enough strength for this? If he quarrels with everyone, stops trading with everyone, exchanging goods, products? What is the European Union? Now it is such an amorphous association, in which each country has its own conflicting interests. They don't always match, so I think there is a desire, but they are unlikely to have enough strength for this matter," the senator said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The Italian edition of Il Fatto quotidiano reported earlier on Wednesday that the EU has reached the limit of its capabilities in the issue of sanctions pressure on Russia. The article says that there are practically no new sanctions options left in the European Union, and those that can be imposed are related to secondary sanctions under the control of the United States.

On August 19, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the next, 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia should be ready by next month. She added that Europe will continue to try to influence the Russian economy.
