France is closer than ever to a financial crisis. This was announced on August 28 by the country's Interior Minister and leader of the Republicans party, Bruno Retaio.

"The situation is extremely serious. France has never been so close to the financial abyss," Le Figaro newspaper quoted Retaio as saying.

The minister also emphasized that "54% of the French public debt belongs to foreign holders," stressing that this is no longer just an economic problem, but a matter of national independence and sovereignty.
