India is preparing to increase purchases of Russian oil in September by 10-20%, which is equivalent to 150-300 thousand barrels per day compared to August, despite pressure from the United States. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on August 28, citing sources in the oil industry.

"Russian oil is likely to remain the main source of supply for India, despite the increase in US tariffs and European Union (EU) price restrictions," the sources said.

The Indian authorities continue to purchase cheaper Russian energy resources. According to sources, Indian refineries imported 1.5 million barrels of Russian oil per day in August, which corresponds to the level of July.

These volumes account for about 1.5% of global supplies, so India remains the largest buyer of Russian oil, which meets about 40% of the country's needs, Reuters added.

On August 26, Reuters reported that trade duties of 50%, which were previously announced by US President Donald Trump, have already begun to apply to India. It clarifies that the tariffs affected goods, which included precious stones, jewelry, shoes, sporting goods, as well as furniture and chemicals.

Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on August 23 that the United States and the European Union (EU) countries, despite their accusations against India, continue to buy oil from it. He advised these states, if they have problems purchasing fossil fuels from India, not to purchase it anymore.
