A Rare earth Metals (REM) project office and cluster with unprecedented potential will be launched in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. This became known on August 28 following a meeting led by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu of the interim interdepartmental working group at the Security Council office to support the implementation of projects in the field of deep processing of raw materials in the Siberian Federal District.

"This is an unprecedented raw material potential for creating a new high-tech industry in Russia. The Siberian Federal District produces 90% of primary aluminum, 80% of copper, 95% of nickel, generates more than 20% of electricity, and holds more than 50% of rare earth metal reserves," said the Secretary of the Russian Security Council.

The meeting discussed the formation of a cluster of deep metal processing in the Angara-Yenisei macroregion, the creation of an innovative scientific and technological center "Angara-Yenisei Valley" and the implementation of joint investment projects.

"Our work with you is the focus of constant attention of the president and the government, we are working on specific projects related to the development of industrial, logistical and energy potential of Siberia," Sergei Shoigu said.

Dmitry Patrushev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, said on April 9 that the Siberian Federal District (SFD) is of strategic importance for strengthening Russia's industrial potential. The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that the explored reserves of rare earth metals in Siberia account for 18% of the total Russian reserves, while significant amounts of rare metals are contained in the bowels of the federal district.
