The auto expert named the reasons for the increase in fuel consumption due to tires
The fuel consumption of a car depends, among other things, on the choice of tires, Alexey Abrameytsev, head of the Technical customer support department at JSC Cordiant, said on August 28. It is increased, for example, by off-road models of tires of the AT and MT categories with large pattern elements, as well as winter tires on which the rubber compound is softer and on which there are more engagement edges (lamellae).
"Wider tires, as well as higher profile tires, also create increased resistance when driving. Remember the wheels of a road bike: they are very narrow and almost smooth — everything is done to make the roll higher and the effort expended to accelerate lower. Also, large wheels do not contribute to economy: large—diameter wheels are a priori heavier, which increases fuel consumption," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes the expert as saying.
To reduce fuel consumption, tire companies optimize the design, making it lighter without compromising durability. For drivers who are faced with the task of saving on fuel when choosing rubber, the expert advised them to pay attention to energy-saving tire lines that are aimed at reducing rolling resistance.
Fuel consumption also depends on the condition of the suspension and braking system, the angles of the wheels (collapse) and the correct choice of tire pressure, depending on the load of the car and / or the upcoming trip along the highway for a long distance, Abrameytsev added.
Earlier, on August 20, auto expert Roman Sokuev said that engine oil, which is sold for bottling from a barrel, is not inferior in quality to oil from a canister. Nevertheless, buyers of such oil risk facing a lack of guarantees of product authenticity and compliance with storage standards in non-certified services.
