A quarantine zone for the large black spruce barbel has been established in the Pskov region. Restrictive measures were introduced on the territory of the Velikiye Luki district within the boundaries of the forest plantations of the Staikovsky district forestry.

The decision was made based on the results of the quarantine phytosanitary monitoring, which was carried out in 2025.

The Pskov News feed notes that the population of this quarantine facility has been identified for the first time in the Pskov region. The barbel was previously recorded in the Leningrad, Novgorod and Vologda regions.

The area of the quarantine phytosanitary zone is 22,370 hectares. The quarantine regime also operates within the boundaries of the forest plantations of the Nevelsky district.

The Rosselkhoznadzor has developed a program to localize and eliminate the black spruce barbel population.

At the end of July, it was reported that a dangerous pest, Siberian larch tar, was found in export softwood lumber in the Khabarovsk Territory. The shipment was intended to be sent to Suifenhe (China). Siberian larch tar (Pissodes insigmatus Boheman) is quarantined for this importing country.
