FT pointed to a change in the US position on security guarantees for Ukraine
The United States has seriously changed its position regarding the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine after the end of the conflict. The Financial Times (FT) newspaper wrote about this on August 28, citing sources.
"The United States is ready to provide intelligence assets and monitor the battlefield to any Western defense forces in Ukraine, as well as participate in the creation of a European air defense shield for the country," the material says.
The publication notes that this is a major change of position. According to the sources of the publication, US President Donald Trump has come to understand that in order to establish peace in Ukraine, the American side's contribution to ensuring its sustainability is necessary. The newspaper's interlocutors added that a security guarantee plan could be presented in the near future.
On August 22, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Europe should take a leading role in ensuring security for Ukraine after the end of the conflict. According to him, the United States will take part in security guarantees for Kiev, but the administration of the American leader Donald Trump believes that Europe should take the initiative.
On August 24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that in order to reach an agreement on guarantees of Ukraine's security after the conflict ends, Western countries must take into account Russia's basic interests. According to him, it is unacceptable to exclude the Russian Federation from security issues on its borders.
