Salaries of teachers in Moscow will increase significantly from September 1. This was announced on August 28 by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, during a meeting of the city pedagogical council in Gostiny Dvor.

"In terms of wages (in the capital), we are going slightly higher than even the presidential decrees that are dedicated to this. But taking into account the fact that you can see the inflation, the rise in prices, and so on, we have decided to significantly increase both salaries and salaries of teachers from September 1," Sobyanin said.

The mayor drew attention to the fact that the quality of teachers' work also depends on how the city takes care of them and solves financial security issues. Irina Kaklyugina, head of the Moscow Department of Education and Science, said that the average salary increase for school teachers in the capital would be 24%.

On August 27, it became known that the State Duma sent an appeal to Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, with a request to consider a proposal to introduce an annual payment of one base salary to all teachers for Knowledge Day. It is assumed that this initiative will become a public demonstration of state appreciation to teachers and will increase the prestige of this profession.

A day earlier, a bill on providing annual payments to families with children before September 1 was submitted to the State Duma. According to the published text of the draft law, payments will be provided to those families where there are children studying in the territory of the Russian Federation in basic educational programs.
