Tricolor provided technical support to the government of the Smolensk region in the large-scale connection of medical and obstetric centers to high-speed satellite Internet. The project may become a pilot solution for providing affordable medical care in remote areas of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

The Government of the Smolensk Region, with the technical and infrastructural support of Tricolor, the leader in the Russian satellite Internet market, has completed the first stage of a large—scale project to provide stable Internet connection to paramedic and obstetric centers in remote parts of the region. At the moment, satellite Internet has already been launched in 12 medical centers, 26 more are planned to be connected by the end of 2025.

The project meets the goals of the federal strategy for the digital transformation of healthcare. Connecting to high—speed Internet via satellite is a profitable, and sometimes the only affordable way to communicate, especially in remote regions of the country where it is not possible to conduct fiber optic. Satellite Internet will allow medical workers to quickly exchange data with district hospitals, conduct telemedicine consultations and download electronic medical records.

"We see how digital technologies are changing the quality of medical care in remote communities. Satellite Internet is not just a connection, it is an opportunity for doctors and paramedics to provide state—of-the-art care, even in the most remote corners of the country. The pilot project in the Smolensk region is an important step towards equal access to healthcare for all Russians, regardless of their place of residence," said Daniil Nirman, Head of Tricolor Internet.

By the end of the year, Tricolor will connect 38 medical and obstetric centers in the Smolensk region to the Internet. In the future, the company plans to scale up its successful experience and launch a similar service in other regions of Russia, where difficulties remain with digital coverage in rural areas.

Earlier, Tricolor reported that the Tricolor Internet service coverage area has expanded based on the Express-103 spacecraft and provides a powerful signal and stable communication in almost the entire territory of Russia, including the Arctic.
