The expert explained the increase in car imports in the Far East
The record increase in the number of cars imported from Japan and South Korea to the Far East is due to buyers' expectation of possible restrictions and bans on their imports. Maxim Kadakov, the editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine, told Izvestia about this on August 28.
He recalled that Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation, recently voiced the idea of a possible revision of the rules for "preferential" recycling for individual importers.
"The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade also mentioned the parameter at which a car imported even for personal use will be subject to a "commercial" scrap collection — 160 horsepower. It is quite possible that these statements have become an additional incentive to increase imports of used cars, including from Japan," Kadakov believes.
He also said that the increase in interest in used cars from Japan is facilitated by a noticeable deterioration in the technical condition of models of European and American automakers available on the Russian market, against which the good condition of right-hand drive units is increasingly becoming one of the alternative options for purchasing a used car.
