August 30 — Trucker's Day: history and traditions, how to congratulate
Every year at the end of August, truck and tractor drivers who transport goods over long distances celebrate their professional holiday. The holiday does not have a fixed date, it is celebrated on different days every year. When is Trucker's Day celebrated in 2025 and how to congratulate on this celebration, Izvestia tells.
When is Trucker's Day in 2025
Traditionally, Trucker's Day is celebrated at the end of the summer season, which is considered one of the most intense in the field of cargo transportation. Usually, closer to autumn, the load becomes less, and truck drivers can gather with colleagues or family to celebrate the holiday.
It is celebrated every year on the last Saturday of August. In 2025, the date falls on August 30th. Next year, the celebration will be celebrated on the 29th.
What do truckers do?
Truckers are mainly engaged in the supply of food, as well as timber, fuel, and industrial products, including the delivery of cars and machinery. They have a great responsibility not only for the safety of the cargo, but also for timely delivery and the car itself.
On long-distance routes, drivers often work in pairs with a backup partner. There is usually a sleeping place in the cab so that the driver can rest while the other is driving.
In order to become a trucker, you must have a category E license, accident-free driving experience, and the ability to work with different types of documents.
When did Trucker's Day appear
The holiday has no official status. It arose spontaneously in the 1990s in the industry community. Later, the initiative was supported by some major carriers.
On this day, drivers of heavy trucks and trucks are congratulated, thanking them for their hard but important work in delivering goods and providing the country with goods. For industry workers, this is a working day, so many people celebrate the holiday while driving.
Today, Trucker's Day is celebrated by logistics companies in Russia, Belarus and other republics of the former Soviet Union. Previously, such a holiday appeared in Canada, the USA and Australia.
Traditions of Trucker's Day
Informal meetings and corporate events are usually held on the holiday, with awards for the best employees. Drivers are given bonuses or monetary rewards to celebrate their achievements.
Sometimes the initiators of the celebration are the drivers of heavy trucks themselves, arranging trips to nature or meetings in cafes. Some people limit themselves to a family celebration, because being at home with loved ones at their work is a real gift.
In a number of cities, car rallies, truck exhibitions, tuning or driving competitions are held on this day. There are stories in the media about the lives of truckers. They tell about the real stories of drivers, their everyday life and the routes that they consider the most difficult.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport annually holds the All-Russian competition of driving skills "The best truck driver".
