Singapore authorities are tightening penalties against vaping users and importers of these products. The latter face three to 20 years in prison and up to 15 lashes, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on August 28.

It clarifies that the sellers of vapes face imprisonment for a term of two to 10 years and from two to five lashes. Also, according to the publication, the authorities are increasing fines for vaping users — for the first violation related to the storage of electronic cigarettes, an adult violator will have to pay 700 Singapore dollars ($ 544).

The new rules primarily concern vapes with the sedative substance etomidate, writes FT.

According to the newspaper, vaping has been banned in Singapore since 2018, but this year the police have tightened controls, and border guards have become more frequent in checking arrivals, including at the local airport.

In April, Andrei Nefedov, an oncologist of the highest qualification category, thoracic surgeon, Candidate of medical Sciences, said that after three months of regular vaping, a person develops symptoms of EVALI - acute pneumonia. He clarified that cells that perform protective and cleansing functions, including in the respiratory tract, accumulate excessive amounts of toxins that they are unable to process.
