- Athletes from 26 countries will compete in international tournaments at the WEF-2025
International tournaments in rowing, curling, surfing and mas-wrestling are included in the program of Sports Games of the tenth anniversary Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held on September 3-6 in Vladivostok. The WEF is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
The main program of the WEF Sports Games was preceded by international surfing competitions on Kunashir Island in the Sakhalin Region. 16 athletes from Russia, Australia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Portugal and South Africa caught waves in one of the most remote and picturesque places in Russia. The All–Russian Surfing Federation divided the participants into four teams, named after the largest islands of the Kuril Ridge - Paramushir, Iturup, Shikotan and Kunashir. The victory was won by the Kunashir team, which was supported by Russian surfers Egor Volkov, Ilya Novikov, Anna Tikhonova, and Uriel Sposaro from Brazil.
Rowers from Russia, China, Cuba, Serbia, Iran, Pakistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will take part in the IV International Vladivostok Regatta. European champion Ekaterina Zhevlechenko, Russian champions Victoria Luganskaya, Violetta Zinina and other leading athletes will compete for the Russian national team. For the second year in a row, competitions will be held in a new Olympic discipline – coastal rowing.
The Pacific Curling Cup will also be held for the fourth time. Men's and women's teams from Russia, China, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey will play at the new specialized curling arena, the Ice House, which began construction at the WEF-2019.
"With the support of the Roscongress Foundation, sports federations use the WEF platform to strengthen international cooperation, promote and develop their sports in the Far East. At the same time, spectacular tournaments also effectively showcase the beauty and traditions of the Far East," said Daria Silayeva, Head of the Roscongress Foundation's Directorate for Sports and Entertainment Events.
The oriental flavor of the WEF sports program will be provided by the international mas-wrestling tournament "Yakutia Railways Cup". 16 athletes from 14 countries will take part in competitions in the national Yakut sport. The 2025 World Cup medalists Saule Egizbayeva (Kyrgyzstan), Baasansuren Damdinsuren (Mongolia), Jarnie Varnel Kimpedi (Congo), Zakariash Galinha and Leticia Galinha (both from Angola) will arrive in Vladivostok.
In addition to the competition, there will be master classes on the Yakut board games khabylyk and khaamyska. The tournament is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory and will end with a Victory Waltz with the participation of athletes on the embankment and a concert "Mir - Mir", during which songs of the war years will be performed in different languages of the world.
The WEF sports program is shaped by the sports platform of the Roscongress Foundation.
The tenth Eastern Economic Forum will be held on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok. The main theme this year is "The Far East: cooperation for peace and prosperity."
