The Chinese Foreign Ministry appreciated the importance of Putin's visit to Beijing
The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the celebrations in Beijing on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory, dedicated to the official surrender of Japan and victory in World War II, is a confirmation of the unity of the two countries in defending victory. This was announced on August 28 by Hong Lei, assistant to the Chinese Foreign Minister, during a press conference.
"President Putin's presence in China at the commemorative events once again demonstrated the high level of Sino-Russian relations of comprehensive strategic partnership and cooperation in a new era and confirmed the unity of both countries in jointly preserving the results of victory in World War II.
"President Putin will arrive in China to participate in commemorative events, which once again demonstrates the high level of comprehensive strategic cooperation and partnership between China and Russia in a new era, and also testifies to the unity of China and Russia in defending victory in World War II," Hong's words were published on the official website of the Foreign Ministry.
He noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Putin had reached a number of important consensuses, sending a convincing signal about the impossibility of "distorting the historical truth about World War II and denying the results of victory." The diplomat added that "the post-war world order cannot be questioned."
Hong Lei also stressed that in the current situation, China and Russia, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), will continue to support the organization's authority and strengthen cooperation within multilateral platforms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.
On the same day, Reuters reported that Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will attend the Victory Day parade in Beijing, dedicated to the official surrender of Japan during World War II. It was specified that the heads of state and government from 26 countries will attend the event. Among them are President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Iran Masoud Peseshkian, President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea Woo Won Sik.
Earlier, on August 18, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper reported that the ambassadors of the European Union (EU) countries are considering the possibility of ignoring the military parade in Beijing due to the possible presence of Putin. According to the publication, there are no strict restrictions regarding the attendance of European diplomats at the parade, but some of them nevertheless decided not to participate.
