- More than half of Polish citizens supported Navrotsky's blocking of assistance to Ukrainians
Almost 60% of Polish citizens support President Karol Nawrocki's decision to veto the law on extending special status and benefits to Ukrainian refugees. This was announced on August 28 by the Onet portal with reference to the results of a survey conducted by the SW Research center.
"The majority of the survey participants, 59.8%, answered yes," the publication says.
According to the results of the study, every fourth respondent (25.4%) held the opposite opinion. The remaining 14.7% of the respondents found it difficult to answer.
It is specified that the respondents aged 25-34 years old (73.5%) had the greatest support for the veto, while citizens over 50 years old (50.1%) had the least support.
In July, the Polish Sejm approved changes to the program of assistance to Ukrainian refugees, according to which, from November 1, the Collective Refugee Accommodation Centers (OZZ) will accept only representatives of protected groups from Ukraine. These groups include pensioners, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.
Later, on August 25, Navrotsky vetoed a bill implying the extension of special status and benefits for refugees from Ukraine. The Polish leader also proposed limiting the access of unemployed Ukrainian refugees to free medical insurance.
