Tennis player Medvedev was fined $42.5 thousand for his behavior at the US Open
Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was fined $42.5 thousand for his behavior in the first round match of the US Open. This was announced by ESPN on August 27.
"The US Open Tennis Championship fined Daniil Medvedev a total of $42,500 <...> for losing his temper in the first round due to a photographer entering the court during the match," the broadcaster said.
It is noted that the tournament judge fined the Russian athlete $ 30,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and another $12.5 thousand for damaging the racket.
On August 24, Medvedev lost to French athlete Benjamin Bonzi in the first round of the U.S. Open Tennis Championship. The match lasted 3 hours and 46 minutes and ended with a score 6:3, 7:5, 6:7 (5:7), 0:6, 6:4.
During the third set, Bonzi made an unsuccessful first serve, and a photojournalist appeared on the court, deciding that the match was over. Referee Greg Allensworth gave the French athlete the opportunity to interrupt the serve, which displeased Medvedev. The stands supported the Russian. Later, a photojournalist who entered the court during the US Open match was stripped of his accreditation.
