Teenager who shot dead Colombian senator sentenced to seven years in prison
The teenager who shot Colombian presidential candidate Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay has been sentenced to seven years in prison. This was reported on August 27 by Caracol radio station.
"The minor was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in a special facility for teenagers. Currently, the young man is in the detention center of the Prosecutor's office in Bogota, under the strict special care of Family Welfare officers," the publication says.
As it is emphasized, the 15-year—old teenager managed to admit his guilt seven days before the death of the senator he injured, so he did not have time to face charges, including aggravating circumstances, he was convicted in accordance with the following crimes: "attempted murder" and "manufacture, trade, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts, or ammunition."
The injury suffered by Miguel Uribe Turbay became known on June 7. One of the interlocutors of the Bluradio radio station clarified that the bullets hit the senator in the head area. It later became known that the shooter turned out to be a teenager, who was also wounded by security guards of the presidential candidate.
Bloomberg reported on August 11 that Uribe Turbay died two months after the assassination attempt. This information was also confirmed by his 39-year-old wife Maria Claudia Tarazona.
