- The Russian Foreign Ministry appreciated Trump's desire to refrain from anti-Russian sanctions
The decision of the American leader Donald Trump to refrain from sanctions against Russia has a positive impact on the negotiation process, Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for crimes of the Kiev regime, told Izvestia.
"Experience shows that there is no point in putting pressure on Russia. The fact that Trump refrains from any drastic actions only underlines that they are determined to find options for a political and diplomatic solution. Previous attempts to threaten have led to nothing," he said.
The diplomat also explained why the legitimacy of the signatories of a possible agreement from Ukraine is important for Russia.
"They must comply with all norms of international law and must be binding, including for European countries that are very attentive to everything, for potential guarantor countries. So that there is no temptation at some point to recognize it as insignificant when you do not want to fulfill your obligations," he said.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia does not consider Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to be a legitimate leader, but recognizes his de facto leadership status.
