Palestine announces creation of committee to draft constitution

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has formed a committee to prepare an interim constitution, Ahmed Majdalani, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, told Izvestia.

"Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree on the establishment of a committee to draft an interim constitution for the transition from the status of a National Administration to a state, in preparation for general elections and preparations for an international peace conference scheduled for September," Ahmed Majdalani told Izvestia.

According to him, the constitution will consolidate the foundations of the political structure of the future Palestine.

"We must create the legal and political conditions for building a state by defining its borders, governance system and constitutional principles," the PLO representative stressed.
