Alexander Ovechkin, a Russian hockey player and captain of the Washington Capitals National Hockey League (NHL) club, has been recognized as the best goal of the 2024/25 season. This was announced on August 27 by the league's press service.

"The first place belongs to the goal that completed Gr8Chase," says a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Gr8Chase, or "The Great Chase" is a phrase recorded by Ovechkin. It is associated with his nickname The Great Eight and the Russian hockey player's attempt to break the record of four-time Stanley Cup winner Wayne Gretzky.

Earlier, on August 22, Ovechkin received a golden stick from Dynamo Moscow for his sniper record. The ceremony honoring the Russian hockey player took place before the test match between Dynamo and Ak Bars from Kazan at VTB Arena.

Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in the NHL regular season and broke Gretzky's record on April 6 in a match against the New York Islanders.
