Bloomberg reported on the discussion of secondary EU sanctions against Russia
The European Union (EU) countries are considering the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions within the framework of restrictions against Russia. This was reported on August 27 by Bloomberg, citing its sources.
"The European Union is considering the possibility of imposing secondary sanctions to prevent third countries from helping Russia circumvent the bloc's current punitive measures against Moscow," the publication notes.
According to Bloomberg, European ministers are considering sanctions against Russia's oil, gas and financial sectors as an area of new restrictions. Additional restrictions on the export and import of Russian goods are also planned.
The Italian edition of Il Fatto quotidiano reported earlier on Wednesday that the EU has reached the limit of its capabilities in the issue of sanctions pressure on Russia. The article says that there are practically no new sanctions options left in the European Union, and those that can be imposed are related to secondary sanctions under the control of the United States.
On August 19, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the next, 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia should be ready by next month. She added that Europe will continue to influence the Russian economy.
